Boxes were filled with lots of goodies including Valentines and notes of support for our Troops.
On January 21, Rutter’s volunteers teamed up with S.O.A.R. and created 100 Valentine’s boxes to be sent to 50 troops serving oversea. The boxes were sent out this week so that our Troops would receive them in time for February 14.
“This is Rutter’s fifth year doing this event,” said Chuck Moyer, a Field Trainer of Rutter’s who organized the event, “S.O.A.R is a volunteer group out of York, PA that helps us (Rutter’s) out with packaging the boxes. This year at least 25 individuals from Rutter’s Farm Stores and Corporate helped out with the event, which is great to see.”
S.O.A.R, which stands for “Support Our American Recruits,” helped Rutter’s create 100 boxes that will be sent to 50 troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Pakistan. Each troop will receive two boxes, which will have enough supplies for a 15-20 soldier unit. The soldier’s names were collected from families in the community who have a relative or friend overseas.
Rutter’s had canisters available at every store’s checkout from December to mid January and collected donations that helped supply additional gum, mints and extra fillers for the boxes. Rutter’s vendors also pitched in to fill the boxes with love. Harrisburg News donated newspapers and magazines, Utz and Martin’s donated chips, Hershey donated candy bars, Chase Goldenburg donated candy, Con Agra donated Slim Jims, S&D Coffee supplied flavored coffee and AWI also contributed with some extra goodies.
Mark on your calendar’s Rutter’s next charity event with the American Red Cross on March 7th at the Suburban Bowling Alley.
