Rutter’s Honors Local Walkersville Community During Grand Opening of Newest Location

Walkersville, MD.  February 22, 2019:  Rutter’s, the award-winning regional chain of convenience stores, is pleased to announce that on Friday, February 22nd Rutter’s CEO Scott Hartman cut the ribbon and presented four local charities with donation checks during the grand opening.  Located on Maryland Route 194 at 9210 Woodsboro Pike, their newest store and only store located in the state of Maryland is now open and serving as a comfortable, convenient rest stop for both local guests and travelers alike, 24/7.

As a family organization, Rutter’s is committed to becoming part of each community they serve with their convenience stores.  During the Walkersville, MD ribbon cutting ceremony Rutter’s continued that tradition by donating $4,000 to those that serve their community. Recipients at the ceremony were Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company, Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company, Glade Valley Athletic Association and the Glade Valley Food Bank.

Local guests, dignitaries, three generations of the Rutter’s family and customers enjoyed an afternoon of food sampling, prize drawings and more during the event.  Also, in attendance at the Walkersville Rutter’s grand opening was John Zimmerman, a Walkersville Town Commissioner.

Rutter’s to Sponsor Easterseals’ 1st Annual Wonder Ball Fundraising Event

Easterseals Announces 1st Annual Wonder Ball Fundraiser Event

The York Division of Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania (ESWCPA) announces their first annual “The Wonder Ball” fundraiser, to be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 6-10 PM at The Country Club of York.

This black-tie optional event is open to the public and will feature keynote speaker, Robert J. DeSousa, State Director for Senator Pat Toomey. DeSousa’s career achievements in public service, including serving as a Pennsylvania Army National Guard Colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. DeSousa is a proud supporter and former parent participant of Easterseals’ Military Children Programs.

Sponsored by Rutter’s, The Wonder Ball, a whimsical nod to Alice in Wonderland, benefits over 2,000 individuals throughout the York region of Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania annually. This event will serve as a kick off for ESWCPA’s 100th Anniversary celebration in 2019. The event will include a served dinner with live classical music by Codo Duo, followed by dancing and music provided by The Famous Rumors Band, a cash bar, and a variety of entertainment throughout the night including roaming magic by Ripley’s Magic.

Rutter’s Finishes Banner Year with a New Store, Office Expansion, & Over $715,000 Donated to Charity in 2017

We gave $370,000 in additional charitable donations to bring the 2017 total to over $715,000 given to Central Pennsylvania charities! In 2017, we also opened a new store in St Thomas, PA in December.  In addition, we are also in the midst of an expansion of our corporate support office, doubling the size to create more opportunities for growth into 2018!

“It has been another great year for everyone at Rutter’s. We opened three new stores and remodeled 20 stores. We enjoy supporting charities and organizations dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and customers in the communities we serve. With plans to double the size of our office in February, build 9 new stores, and complete 38 store remodels (including beer caves, flex fuels, and gaming rooms) we look forward to another fantastic and busy year in 2018,” said Scott Hartman, Rutter’s CEO and President.

  • Crispus Attucks = $50,000
  • YMCA of York County = $42,800
  • Office Secret Santa – employees from Rutter’s went out to the community and donated to organizations of their choice. They gave out $29,000
  • Junior Achievement = $28,300
  • Make-A-Wish Greater PA & WV = $27,200
  • Leg Up Farm = $25,900
  • Penn-Mont Academy = $25,000
  • Second Century Scholarship Fund = $25,000
  • Creative York = $25,000
  • Appell Center for the Performing Arts = $20,000

Over the past 14 years, Rutter’s Children’s Charities has donated over $6.2 million to support charities in the communities it serves. Celebrate JA Biztown’s 16th Anniversary

This year is Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania’s 16th year of JA BizTown! JA BizTown allows 5th and 6th grade students from across South Central Pennsylvania to live a day as an adult.  Over 9,000 students will go through the program during the 2017-2018 academic year! The town features 14 businesses from Town Hall to a Radio Station, giving students a taste for jobs that they might be interested in making into a future career. Rutter’s has been a longtime supporter of BizTown, and students even have the opportunity to work in the Restaurant which is Rutter’s branded, where students can purchase Rutter’s beverages using the “JA Biztown cash” that they earn at their jobs.

Rutter’s Pledges to Support Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

Rutter’s plans to support those affected by Hurricane Harvey by sending Rutter’s branded bottled beverages; and enabling our customers to contribute through coffee purchases and in-store donations.  Now thru October 1st, we will be donating to the Red Cross 10-cents per cup of all coffee sold in our stores, up to $10,000. In addition, we will be collecting coin canister donations for the American Red Cross.

We are partnering with UNFI & Martin’s Potato Chips to fill trucks with beverages, chips, personal care products, and other essential items to provide to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

“Just like many others, we have been watching the news and seeing the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Supporting fellow Americans in a time of need and working with the Red Cross to assist the victims is central to our core values,” said Derek, Gaskins, Chief Customer Officer.

Rutter’s Donates $60,000 to Pre-K EITC Organizations in Blair County

To continue Rutter’s record charitable giving efforts, we donated $60,000 of their Pre-K EITC funding to 3 different organizations in the Duncansville, Pennsylvania area! Each of the donations will be used to provide scholarship funding for children.

The following organizations received checks during Rutter’s Grand Opening of their Duncansville store:

  • Penn-Mont Academy received a $25,000 donation. Penn-Mont Academy caters their children’s learning experience to each individual child’s periods of interest.
  • Second Century Scholarship Fund also received a $25,000 donation. The Second-Century Scholarship Fund is a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and uses donations to assist students attending Catholic Schools in Blair County.
  • Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation received a donation of $10,000. The Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation uses donations to have over 60 scholarships available to students.

Rutter’s Donates Over $63,000 to Local Community in Blair County

We hosted our Grand Opening event of our newest store in Duncansville, PA on Thursday, July 20th! After the ribbon cutting ceremony, we donated over $63,000 to seven different charitable organizations in the Duncansville/Altoona Area!

The following organizations received a donation at the Grand Opening:

  • Penn-Mont Academy: $25,000
  • Second Century Scholarship Fund: $25,000
  • Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation: $10,000
  • Allegheny Township Police Department: $1,000
  • Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department: $1,000
  • Duncansville Borough Police Department: $700
  • Music 4-R Vets: $500

This is our first location in Blair County and our 68th store! Attendees at the Duncansville Grand Opening included PA House Representative Judy Ward, PA House Representative John McGinnis, District Director Jim Frank representing Congressman Bill Shuster’s Office, Economic Development Director Michele Ivory representing Senator John Eichelberger Jr’s Office, Blair County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Joe Hurd, Blair County Officials, Allegheny Township Officials, and county music star Ricky Lee.
